Paul is the owner of Ephemeral Ark Nursery (specializing in native woodland species) and consultant on ecological gardening and design. Paul maintains a strong knowledge of Ontario native plant species and their communities and fosters them in his own gardens. He is the past President of the North American Native Plant Society and enjoys presenting on the importance of native plants to our ecology.
Dugald began his gardening career at an early age helping in his English Grandmother's garden and has been interested in plants and gardens ever since. Along with Lynn Pashleigh and his Father they started Gardenimport, a mail order nursery because they couldn't find the quality or selection of plants they wanted for their gardens. The business ran from 1983 until 2014. Currently Dugald continues to volunteer with the Toronto Botanical Garden, speaks on many subjects and occasionally sits in for Ed Lawrence on CBC's Ontario Today. His current garden passions include Tulips, Nerines, Daffodils, Clematis and tuberous Begonias.
Paul has written many books including whimsical books about gardening, travel and humour. He also has written articles for publications as The Toronto Sun, Exchange Magazine, Ottawa Citizen and many other publications. He enjoys speaking at gardening and community events. Paul is a community volunteer involved in many endeavours and is a recipient of the Governor General's Medal on the occasion of Canada's 125th anniversary. More recently he was honoured as a recipient of the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal.
